ABATE of Florida Inc SOUTHWEST CHAPTER
13
Legislative Information Center
In a few short months, the new Legislative Session for 2008-09 will begin and lawmakers will start filing their Bills in
hopes of creating new laws or changing present ones. We must be prepared ourselves, to review, study and decide
our approach to those affecting motorcyclist across the State.
Our preparation has begun, and part of that process is to organize and present concerns and ideas to our Lobbyist,
so that we may also exercise our rights and be represented. Stiffer Penalties and Driver Distraction issues are high
on our list, and their may be additional concerns that you have. A special email address has been established for
this purpose.
Please submit agenda topics for the 2008-09 session to: 2008agenda@floridaabate.com
Your information will be reviewed and presented to the Lobbyist at the next State Meeting in Clermont. That's only 3
weeks away...
Also for your review, a summary of Cell Phone Bills introduced this past session has been summarized and is
available in the "Library" section of the LIC site. The direct link to this is:
There were several bills attacking the usage of driver distracting devices, especially cell phones. It's obvious that
some politicians realize this is a deadly problem but are having trouble promoting their own and somewhat
fragmented versions of these restrictions. Hopefully, we will have a stronger influence on this subject this next
session.
As always, pass this information on to others and encourage them to sign up for messages such as this. Go to
www.abateflorida.com and follow the links to the Legislative Information Center.
